Pro-G Peel 35

CosMed Pro-G Peels  are the treatment of choice for mild to moderate:

• Hyperpigmentation
• Acne
• Photoaging

The peels are done in a series of 4 to 6 peels (but if the condition is very longstanding the patient/client may require the series go up to 8 initial peels)

Pro-G 35: Before and After 6 Peels performed 2 weeks apart (12 weeks total)

How to Use

Our peels are for professional use only (license required) and come with training and instructions on how to perform them, how to prepare the patient before-hand, and what products to choose for at-home use depending on skin type and condition.

Question 1: Why is the CosMed Pro-G Peel 35 stronger then the CosMed Pro-G Peel 70?
Answer: Our CosMed Pro-G Peel 70 is buffered and our CosMed Pro-G Peel 35  is not. When an acid is buffered it is combined with a base (usually sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.) The final formulation contains a smaller amount of acid, and the rest is the salt of the acid, which has been formed by the union of the acid and base.

 

The buffered product is "weaker" than the non-buffered in the following ways:

1. When a product is buffered, the pH rises. Higher pH means that there is less cell renewal from the product: In a study published by Dr. Walter Smith in 1993, he found that for every drop of 2 in the pH of a product, there is a rise of approximately 33% in the cell renewal rate seen from that product. So, acidic products, with lower pH automatically produce greater cell renewal no matter what the percentage of the acid. This gives more dramatic results for treating Photoaging, Hyperpigmentation and Acne.

2. Also, when a product has been buffered, the amount of "free" or so-called "available" acid that remains is much less than the starting percentage. So, if there is a product that starts at 10% glycolic acid, but it is buffered to a pH of approximately 6 (as are many OTC mass-marketed glycolic formulations), the end amount of glycolic acid that is truly in that product is in the range of only 2 to 3% and the rest is bound in the salt form.

 

Question 2: Do any of CosMedical's peels help minimize the appearance of broken blood vessels or should the client use our Vitamin K Creme?

Answer: No there is not a peel that can help minimize the appearance of broken blood vessels. In fact, if someone has a lot of broken vessels, you should steer away from doing a medium depth peel in those areas as it could aggravate the condition. We do highly recommend using our Vitamin K Creme that contains Phytonadione which helps improve the appearance of enlarged vessels as well as decreases circulation to bruised tissue and helps reduce vascular permeability, edema and swelling.

 

Question 3: Can our peels be used on clients with Melasma? I know that this is the 'Mask of Pregnancy', but can a person still have this condition after pregnancy and if so can this be treated with peels? Also, what products can we recommend for Melasma?

Answer: Our peels can be very effective for Melasma. We suggest that you start with the Pro-G 70 since you don't want to inflame the skin and then possibly cause a problem with the skin getting darker in inflamed areas after a peel. This is why we also use a more gentle peel first for Melasma. We have had very good results with glycolic peels and products for Melasma.

For Melasma, we recommend using the following hyperpigmentation regimen:

Every morning use:
Salicylic Face & Body Wash, unless pregnant or breastfeeding, then use Chamomile Facial Wash
Vita Soothe
Ultra Benefits
Daily Replenishing
Micro Buff, once every day

Same at night but use Retinol Drops instead of VitaSoothe and include either AHA Clarifier or Glycolic Gel after cleanser.

WARNINGS:
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your Doctor prior to beginning this regiment. Consult your Doctor if you plan to include AHA Fade Lotion in your regiment during pregnancy, breastfeeding or you use oral contraceptives.

Sunburn Alert: Products containing an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) such as Glycolic Acid may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using these products and for a week afterwards.

Question 4: Why can't peels be used on other parts of the body such as arms, etc?
Answer: The face has a different anatomy than the rest of the body. The same way that a laser should never be used on the neck, a deeper peel should not be applied there either because we don't have the anatomic units in these areas that can promote healing of deeper wounds that are caused by more aggressive peels. The CosMed Pro-G 70 and CosMed Pro-L 20 are both generally safe to use on the neck and arms, but do not use the CosMed Pro-G Peel 35 on these areas.
